Stage Play ‘Touken Ranbu: Kyoden Moyuru Honnouji’ Gets Anime

The Touken Ranbu: Kiden Ikusayu no Adabana stage play in Osaka announced an anime adaptation of the first stage play Touken Ranbu: Kyoden Moyuru Honnouji on Sunday. Kenichi Suemitsu (Ballroom e Youkoso), the stage play’s director and scriptwriter, will be in charge of the anime’s series composition and script.

Based on Nitroplus and DMM Games’ online card collectible game, Doga Kobo produced two Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru anime seasons in Fall 2016 and Winter 2018, each running for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll simulcast both seasons with subtitles, while Funimation streamed an English dub.

The game was also adapted into the 13-episode Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu television anime by ufotable in Summer 2017. Aniplex of America licensed the anime and streamed it on Crunchyroll, Amazon’s Prime Video platform, and Hulu. An anime movie is currently in production.

Nitroplus and DMM Games released the game in Japan in January 2015. Game platform Johren released the game in English on browser in April 2021 and on smartphone in August that year. The franchise also inspired musicals and two live-action movies.
