The official website of the Natsu e no Tunnel, Sayonara no Deguchi (The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbye) anime movie unveiled the production staff and a teaser trailer on Wednesday. Hachi submitted the novel at the 13th Shogakukan Light Novel Award in 2018 and won both the Gagaga Award and Jury Special Award. Shogakukan published the light novel under the Gagaga Bunko imprint in a single volume in July 2019, featuring illustrations by Kukka (Gunjou Sanka).
Koudon began drawing a manga adaptation on the Sunday Gene-X monthly magazine and the MangaONE platform in July 2020. Shogakukan shipped the fourth and final volume last December.
